Why Senior Care Franchising?

By , About.com Guide

The purpose of franchising is to attempt to fill long-term needs in the marketplace. As Americans live longer, senior care franchises is a market niche that has become an ever increasing need. The U.S. Census bureau projects that between the years 2000 and 2050, folks between the ages of 65 and 85 will be a much larger part of the population.

Research has demonstrated that these individuals typically prefer to live out their retirement in their own homes, at least as long as possible. Also, many times these services can be a welcome break to a family member who does most of the care themselves.

In addition, the cost of senior care services for the family members is much less than the expense involved with a nursing home or assisted living facility.

Types of Senior Care Franchises

Senior care franchises offer a wide variety of services depending on need. These franchises may also serve active seniors who want more time to relax and be their families as well as to homebound seniors.

The main goal of most senior care franchises is to provide a variety of customized non-medical services to each client based upon need. The beauty of these franchises is that there is flexibility within a proven business model as they tailor their services by client.

Some of the assistance offered includes cleaning, yard work, home maintenance and repair, as well as companionship if desired. Other services provided may include more personal care such as help with bathing, meal preparation, medication reminders, and errand running. The amount of time dedicated depends on what the client requests.

Getting Started in Senior Care Franchising

Most of these franchises involve less of a startup investment than other industries such as restaurants and health clubs. Initially franchise owners may begin as a hands-on senior care aid and then as the business grows become a manager of a team of employees sent out to clients' homes.

It is important to find out what type of training is available from a particular franchise before joining. Most franchisors provide a comprehensive training program as well as continuous support for their franchisees.

Looking forward, it appears that senior care franchises will continue to offer a much needed service for this growing segment of the population
