Can a Niche Market Franchise Be Successful?

By , About.com Guide

There are a number of advantages to launching a franchise that sells a particular product or service to a specific demographic or market sector:

Less Competition

Every business owner worries about the competition, especially when there is limited market share. Name brand franchises will ultimately absorb most of the market share, yet they cater to the masses. Finding a franchise opportunity with a specific market opens the doors to greater opportunities in that market and shrinks competitive activity.

Greater Access to Financing

One thing investors and banks love is specialization rather than generality. Most franchisees think in the most general terms possible, which investors see as financial risk. By focusing on a particular and specific customer base and if you can prove a demand for your product or service is there, obtaining the proper financing will be that much easier.

More Time and Money for Marketing

Another great advantage of a narrowed focus is the added time you’ll have to market and brand your product or service to a specific demographic. Rather than attempting to grab the attention of the entire general public and to separate your product from the competition, you’ll have a single group of customers to attract. As you solidify your appeal to this core group, word of mouth about your franchise should spread, and your business will grow.

Gain Recognition for Your Expertise

People would rather put their trust in someone who knows everything about one topic rather than someone with extensive generic knowledge. Your expertise will lead to greater accountability with your customers and increase loyalty. When you build loyalty, you initiate word-of-mouth advertising. Try to acquire any testimonials your customers leave behind and use these as ammunition to extend your market share outside your community if possible.

You can find a niche market franchise in many categories of your preferred online franchise directory. While the category will not say “niche market” you can identify one by the type of products or services it sells. Some example of niche market franchises include home care services for seniors, pet care franchises, and home inspection franchises.
