How Much Does The UPS Store Franchise Cost?

Potential franchisees must have a minimum of $60,000 in liquid capital in cash, savings, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, retirement accounts, a gift from a family member or friend, or any other non-borrowed sources. This amount is based upon the franchisees area of interest, and could go as high as $100,000 depending on market conditions. There is a two-week in-store training session and an eight-day course at HQ in San Diego, CA. I am a former owner of a The UPS Store franchise. Here is the REAL story. We opened a new store in March 2004. It took us 18 months to break even but had it gone 6 or 7 months longer, we would have gone bankrupt like 2 other franchisees in our area did. Most franchisees break even at 36 months meaning requiring more cash to stay afloat. My wife and I operated the store together. We lived (if you can call it that) on $3,000 a month and no health insurance until we sold the franchise Oct 2007 and only netted $10,000 on the sale after paying back our SBA loan and family loan. Had we owned it long enough (6 1/2 more years) to pay off the principal of the SBA loan we could have increased our monthly income to $5,000. Can you live for 10 years on $3,000 a month and no health insurance? Other owners are struggling to say the least.
