Women in a Franchising Role

By , About.com Guide

As times have progressed there are not only more women in the workforce, but there are also a greater number of women who are taking on entrepreneurial roles. In the past years, women have continuously been able to prove their value in the business arena. However, many women have become tired of corporate struggles and politics. They have also gained the desire to partake in more challenging, rewarding and flexible positions. Therefore, they have shown an increased interest in business and franchise ownership.

What Women Have to Offer to Franchising

Business analysts have determined that overall women possess a great deal of the characteristics that can create successful businesses. For instance, many women have accumulated a vast amount of education as well as corporate experience to bring to the table.

Also, according to research, franchisors assume of women as more savvy risk takers than men. In other words, women are more likely to take a chance in such avenues as stepping out of the box in order to save clients money. At the same time, they avoid jeopardizing their family's security by taking unnecessary risks with their business venture.

That is why franchising is such a good fit for many women. There is typically a proven business model in place, reducing financial uncertainty since the chances for success are increased.

Another positive trait that women possess in franchising is that they are usually more relationally minded than males. This works to the advantage of the business as they easily build rapport with clients, vendors, and also experts. Women are not hesitant to ask questions and find out how they can best provide and receive value.

More Traditional Women-owned Franchises

Women's interpersonal skills can often be quite advantageous to particular types of business ventures. By nature they definitely fit the bill in children's product and service organizations.

Other popular franchises that women tend to gravitate toward are travel and some home-related businesses such as kitchenware and décor opportunities.

Non-traditional Franchising for Women

Although not extremely popular, there are a few women who are now breaking the typical male-owned business stereotype role. A few examples are automotive repair and security system franchises.

There are other franchising opportunities that have been traditionally male dominated. For instance, although some women may not find videogames particularly appealing, some opt to run that type of business anyhow since the business skills they possess are likely to bring success.

In conclusion, as women endeavor to catch up to men in the business circle, franchising is a solid option. The model is already set up and the ongoing support is part of the package, therefore enabling the franchisee to focus on obtaining and retaining customers.
